Velocio have making stylish beautifully made cycling apparel for some time now, and with their current range it’s no different.
When I first got my hands on bits of the Velocio new range I was instantly filled with a sense of excitement. The products were presented well, with a quality and refinement held only by the very high end brands.
The Velocio Men’s ES Jersey with ultralight perforated side panels is made of a beautiful denier gradient polyester which is substantial but cool, extremely stretchy in multiple directions and cut perfectly. The long arms were there as we are seeing in all of the high end brands at the moment meaning they don’t ride up when you move down into a low cycling position and the pockets were exactly the right size for those days out when you need a few more bits than just change for a coffee run. The jersey also features four back pockets including a water-resistant zippered pocket.
The high quality Velocio Signature Bib Shorts were a little more snug to put on but once in and warm they gave slightly to offer the right amount of compression across all the essential areas. Another little gripe of mine was how fiddly the microfiber crossed straps were to get in the right position due to their criss-cross design, but once I got them where I wanted them they held well and fitted perfectly and snuggly to my shoulders. These nuances aside though, and the great material paired with a fantastic pad left me with an overall feeling of happiness with the shorts and feeling none of the rubs and pains you may get from a cheaper bib with poorer stitching or pads.
I saved the Velocio Ultralight Vest for last because for me, this is the stand out piece out of this kit and just like desert, the best is left till the end. With a tailored fit, it’s designed for men in a cycling position and is wind proof and features water resistant main panels. It is also super light, with a shell front and mesh back so you don’t get that horrible feeling of being sweaty; the veil stretch mesh back makes sure of this, in fact, you hardly know you’re wearing it. The material is strong but extremely thin, so it packs down really small allowing you to easily pop it into a back pocket if the sun makes a guest appearance and the mercury starts to rise a little. This is a brilliant piece and I will be using/carrying this regardless of what I am wearing as this will be that little bit of cover you need when the weather turns cold.
Overall, impressions are good. I would say that the shorts have a couple of little points in the straps which I would personally want looked at but the jersey and gilet are excellent and overall the kit is beautifully made, incredibly comfortable and looks as good as the best kits out there. Velocio certainly aren’t the cheapest brand around but with the attention to detail in terms of cut and materials, the price undoubtedly reflects the product.
