We introduced La Passione last season with the Raw collection and this year sees them expand their offering with the La Passione Lightweight collection. A technical lightweight range for those hot summer rides.
La Passione have a staple range of designs that they employ across both their summer and long sleeve jerseys, so in keeping with that they have taken a selection of the designs to be used on their lightweight jerseys. For the purpose of this review we received a raw and square jersey but they also have the camo and diagonal design on offer in this range. My thoughts on these are that they are both minimal and well styled. The colour pallet has been chosen to be in keeping with the current fashion trends and the design motifs, like on the square design is that ideal level of design without being busy and really leave all their jerseys appealing to the eye.
This is where the La Passione Lightweight Jersey comes in to its own. Made with 2 Italian fabrics, the front and back of the jersey is made with a high stretch mesh material that offers the perfect level of breathability on those hot summer days. The sleeves, side panel and rear pockets are then a high stretch lycra as seen on the body of the summer jerseys. One of the key features of the fabrics chosen is the SPF quality of the mesh fabric that claims SPF UV 50+ sun protection factor.
Cut the same as the other versions of their jerseys, La Passione have created a great collection of jerseys by keeping the same race fit they employ on all of the other pieces they have in their collection. Long sleeves and a slim fit body provide supreme comfort without sacrificing the benefits of their fabrics. These elements all come together to create a comfortable jersey which would be perfectly placed on those alpine raids as much as those sunny café rides.
We talk of high performance apparel and those big brands come to mind. La Passione should be in there with this piece. On a hot century ride, the Lightweight Jersey kept me perfectly cool thanks to the mesh material and I didn’t experience the normal salt marks all over the jersey. This is a very slim cut and this boded very well when it came to comfort. The jersey didn’t ride up in any way and I didn’t experience any flapping of the material which is a pet hate of mine. One point I would like to make as well is the pockets appear quite small on this jersey but don’t let them fool you, I packed a lot in and it did not affect the comfort at all.
Overall for La Passione Lightweight Jersey
I have said this before and I will say it again, in a market dominated by the apparel giants you can find yourself paying anywhere up to £150 and more for the best technical lightweight jersey. You don’t need to!
If you are looking for a high end lightweight jersey which is going to not only keep you cool but also keep you comfortable on those long rides, then look no further.
